Youth Lacrosse in Arizona
The original AYLL was founded in the late 90s as a group of middle school teams in Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert. The early years of Arizona lacrosse culminated in the dynasties of Chaparral (5 straight state titles) and Brophy Prep (undefeated in-state for nearly 4 seasons).
As the sport matured, the competition has evolved into two main entities: Arizona Youth Lacrosse for K-8th grade competition and the Arizona Lacrosse League for high school teams.
Arizona Lacrosse League now features 20 teams, including both official varsity programs (both 2018 finalists Notre Dame Prep and Salpointe Catholic ) and “virtual varsity’ clubs (Pinnacle Boys Lacrosse and Desert Vista Thunder Lacrosse) that are operated as 501c3 non-profits.
Arizona Youth Lacrosse has 16 community-based programs that sponsor teams to play each other on the 8u, 10u, 12u, and 14u levels. Games are held at central locations in a jamboree format. The season culminates in the Cactus Cup, a 2-day festival tournament that crowns a champion at the 12u and 14u levels.
There are currently thousands of players in the Valley playing lacrosse, several programs in Oro Valley and Tucson, and clinics being held in Flagstaff, Prescott, and Winslow.
